I. Purpose of the Call
1. This Call is open for the presentation of applications for the attribution of 1 post-doctorate scholarship in the scope of the Measure 3.1.7/FRCT - “Individual post-doctorate scholarship”, Axis 3.1 - “Scientific and technological research scholarships”, Program 3 - Advanced training support (FORMAC), from the PICTI. 2. The scholarship is meant to integrate a PhD holder in the R&D project subjected to the theme “Eruptive dynamics of the Azorean volcanism: analysing the past in order to understand the future”.
II. Portuguese applicable legislation
Law nº 40/2004, dated August 18th, which approves the Research Scholarship-holder Statute; Normative Dispatch nº35/2007, dated July 12th, which approves the General Regulation for Scientific Research Scholarships and Management Support of the Science and Technology Regional Fund; Resolution nº41/2008, dated April 3th, which creates the Innovation, Science and Technology Integrated Plan.
III. Call’s period
The period for delivering the applications is between December 18th and February 18th 2009, and the applications submitted after midnight (24h00 - Azorean local time) of the February 18th will not be accepted for evaluation.
IV. Addressees and applicants’ profiles
1. The applicants should have a PhD in Volcanology or in any other fields related with it. 2. The applicants can be national or foreign citizens. 3. It is preferred that the applicants have consistent training and proven experience in the study of eruptive processes related with the formation of calderas, particularly in the in the field analysis and in the laboratorial treatment of associated volcanic deposits.
V. Project
1. The main objectives of the project “Eruptive dynamics of the Azorean volcanism: analysing the past in order to understand the future” are: To expand the knowledge of volcanism in the Azores; To determine eruptive parameters of relevant eruptions; To characterize mechanisms associated to the effusion processes, fragmentation and transportation of volcanic products; To characterize the volcanic danger associated with the studied eruptions. 2. The work will be developed at the no Centro de Vulcanologia e Avaliação de Riscos Geológicos (CVARG) (www.cvarg.azores.gov.pt), in the University of Azores, based in São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal, under the coordination of Doutora Maria Gabriela Queiroz (Maria.gp.queiroz@azores.gov.pt).
VI. Applications and requirements
1. The applications should be formalized through the electronic submission of the form made available in the Internet site http://sctridi.azores.gov.pt. 2. To access this form, those interested will have to make a pre-registration in the Scientific and Technological Regional System (Sistema Científico e Tecnológico Regional) through the Internet site mentioned above. 3. In the application form, those interested will have to attach the confirming certificate of their Doctoral degree or, if such is not available, indicate the date of when the degree was attained, as well as the thesis title and the name of the institution which granted the degree. 4. Non-withstanding the previous number, the original or an authenticated copy of the Doctoral degree certificate will have to be delivered up to the date of the contract signing. 5. The application processes that are not completed until the submission deadline will be automatically excluded.
VII. Evaluation
The evaluation criteria will take into account: a) the candidate’s curriculum vitae; b) the proposed work plan, namely the clarity of the goals, the adjustment of the phases and tasks to be performed, the works’ timetable and the reasonability of the deliverables.
VIII. Financing
1. The financing will include the components mentioned on Article 22 of the Normative Dispatch nº35/2007, dated July 12th, which approves the General Regulation for Scientific Research Scholarships and Management Support of the Science and Technology Regional Fund. 2. The scholarships’ amounts to be considered in the scope of this Call are those presented at the FRCT’s Values Table. 3. The contract to be established is for a one year period, renewable up to a maximum of six years.
